LIVINGSTONE SABBATHS - During the school year you will notice that our school calendar includes items listed as, “LAA @ Stayton Adventist Church” or “LAA Senior Bells @ Dallas Adventist Church.”  We love to visit our constituent churches with our Livingstone Family participating in the local church service program.  These Sabbaths let everyone meet our great Livingstone students and staff.  To our parents and friends, we always extend an invitation for your support on any or all of these special Sabbaths.  Please feel free to join us for the service and also for a potluck meal afterward.

Daily Prayer List
The Livingstone staff meets for morning worship regularly during the school year.  Our thoughts are with the students as they travel to and from school and we pray for God's guiding hand during the day.

In addition, during each worship, we say a word of encouragement about and a prayer for individual students.  By the end of the year, we have brought each Livingstone child's name before the Lord.  There is something special about knowing someone is thinking about you as an individual.

You can check here to see whom we are praying for during the current week, then you can also remember them along with us each day.

Monday, June 2 -

Erica O., David G.
Tuesday, June 3 -  Ellie B., Sarah P.
Thursday, June 5 -  Chris S., Camilyn C.
Friday, June 6 -  Ethan R., Tessa T.

Also, students please remember, no gum chewing, no eating or drinking (bottled water is excepted), obey the driver, respect others, speak softly, and keep the bus clean
Thanks for helping us promote a safe bus riding experience!

Thank you
.

HOME & SCHOOL

Lost & Found - As the weather has gotten warmer, our lost & found table has gotten more and more piled with coats and sweatshirts.  Please make a point to stop by and look for your child's belongings.  The lost and found items will be donated to charity if not claimed by May 30th.

Preventing Child Abuse – In keeping with SB 379, passed this year by the Oregon Legislature, recognizing and preventing child abuse, Livingstone Adventist Academy is making training available to parents and guardians of students in our school.
You may log into the following address as a guest and take a short course by clicking on Child Abuse Prevention Training for Oregon Schools. http://courses.orvsd.org/moodle/course/view.php?id=254

Constituency Report:  Our school constituency members recently voted to eliminate route busses after this school year.  We will be providing a free morning latchkey so parents can drop off students on the way to work.  We encourage those who have transportation needs for next year to talk with other parents in your area about car pooling.  If you have additional ideas, please share them with us.  Thank you.

What is “Home & School”?  Home & School is our equivalent to other schools' Parent-Teacher Associations or PTA.  We love parents to be involved with our school and working with Home & School is a great way to do that.  Home and School is always looking for parents who want to be involved in school activities to be on the Home and School Committee.  Please contact Kerry Lucas to be a special part of your school, 503-363-9408.

We have a aluminum recycling program with proceeds to go for kitchen programs.  There is a container in the lunchroom where we can toss juice cans and anything aluminum.  Chef Sheila appreciates your help!

"FOUND MONEY"

The Jump for Heart raised $3,874.86 for the American Heard Association.  Thanks so much for all of your support with this fund raiser.  The students had a great time.

UPDATE: Because of your help, we just received a credit from Office Depot for $62.93!  Remember, we get 5% of what you spend when you mention Livingstone at Office Depot.  Thank you for helping your school!

We've received another check from the discount retailer, Target, this one in the amount of $63.70.  That makes our total through 9/07 $1,140.35!  There are 61 of you out there who have designated Livingstone as your school of choice for purchases made using your Target card.  For those who haven't selected Livingstone, our Target school ID number is 14543.  Thank you!

Don't forget about our box tops program!  It may not seem like much to save a few box tops worth 10 cents each, but our most recent payment was for $245.50!  Keep those box tops coming.  Thanks for your help with this program throughout the year.

Amazon.com purchases can now benefit LAA!  We will receive 4% of every sale made through this link.  Simply start your shopping here.  Once the new screen pops up, shop like normal.
Thank you for your ongoing support of Livingstone Adventist Academy.

SCRIP INFORMATION - A big THANK YOU to those of you using the SCRIP program!  We are paying off our high school mortgage because of your help.  For those of you who aren't quite sure what you need to do to help, it's really pretty easy...

  • Purchase a merchant certificate from Livingstone.  (Download the order form by clicking here.)

  • Use the certificate at your local merchant instead of money, (most of the merchants you shop regularly are participating).

And here's the best part!  A percentage of each transaction comes back to the Livingstone Building Fund.  Wow!  That is easy!  For more information, contact us at 503-363-9408.

Washington Mutual Bank is offering a great School Fundraiser to its customers.
By using the Washington Mutual Visa Check Card, and selecting Livingstone as your school of choice, with each purchase you make on the card, LAA will receive a point, (worth about 5 cents.)  At the end of the year, a total is calculated and a check will be sent to Livingstone!  Want more information?  Call us at 503-363-9408 or check out www.wamoolaforschools.com.  Thanks again for helping us pay for our new high school!
UPDATE 2/24/06: We received a check from Washington Mutual for $249.66.  Thank you those of you that are using your Washington Mutual credit or debit cards and have signed up under LAA.

MUSIC

With the addition of a strings teacher this year, Livingstone has begun to build a musical strings program, providing more opportunities for students.  Current strings students will be guest performers for a few days in May for children in K-8.  This will be a chance for them to play in front of their peers and show off a little.  New students will be accepted in the fall starting with Grade 1 and above.  Look for more information in September.  Current strings instruction includes violin and viola.  Our strings teacher this year is Mr. Kelly Leggett.

Are you interested in having your child in private voice or piano lessons this summer?  Cicilia Costea would love to help.  She went to Bucharest Music University for 5 years.  Some of her voice students have gone on to music university and one is a soloist with the Romanian Opera.  For more info, please call Mrs. Costea @ 503-363-9408.

The Music Department can always use your donated instruments.  Especially the following instruments - Violins, Ukuleles, Trumpets, Saxophones, Guitars, Flutes, and others...  Also, we need piano books for our lending library.  Please make a tax-deductible contribution to Livingstone today!

Just a few reminders for during the school year...

  • Please do not drop off your child before 8:00 a.m. unless you have made prior arrangements.

  • Students are asked to remain in the office until 8:15 a.m. when first buzzer allows them to go to their classrooms.

  • The staff has daily worship from 7:40 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. so we thank you for calling after 8:00 a.m., (unless it is an emergency, of course.)

  • If you need to leave a message for your child during the day, please call it in to the office by 2:45 p.m. as notes go to the classroom by 2:50.  If a change in your plan occurs after that, of course please call and we will get the message to them as quickly as possible.

  • Parents picking up students from both elementary and high school, please pick them up at the high school.

  • In America, we now have more TV’s than phones or toilets

  • The average American family has 2.9 TV’s

We have all heard statistics like the above but the result of this lifestyle is listed below and these are truly amazing!

  • Students who score at the 50% percentile on their standardized tests read 4.6 minutes a day.

  • Students who score below the 20th percentile on their standardized tests read 0 minutes a day.

  • Children today will spend 3% of their life outdoors…That is 43 minutes a day!
